Aaron grew up in Spruce Pine. When we started a family we knew we wanted to plant roots somewhere, be surrounded by good people, teach our kids how to grow their own food and how to love their neighbors. We believe that a great community is where you invest and what you make of it, we decided to set up camp back here in Spruce Pine, NC. We feel really strongly about putting good food (and drink!) into your body, supporting small farmers, and taking care of the environment so we have created a space that will advocate for all of these things.

We we serve Counter Culture coffee (roasted in Durham) and organic Rishi teas (out of Milwaukee).  We bake everything in house with as many local ingredients as we can source. Sweet, savory, gluten free, and vegan. We love learning and if you have questions or suggestions, please ask!

Springmaid Mountain is a secluded 400-acre retreat located on the North Toe River, offering visitors peace, quiet and tranquility. Just a mile-and-a-half off the Blue Ridge Parkway, Springmaid Mountain is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

For over a quarter-century, the Orchard, as a non-profit organization, has diligently worked to “save the good stuff”—regional traditions, culture, and land on which all was created. As a preservation orchard with some trees over 100 years old and still producing, we propagate the best heirloom apples possible (with the least chemicals), create a pollinator-friendly environment, and host activities for all ages that educate, enlighten, and entertain.

The Skyline Village Inn has been a landmark adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway for 70 years. In 1938 John Greer bought the land next to the Parkway and started making moonshine in a cavern just off the road on what is now NC 226 Alt. The US Government had begun construction of the Parkway only 3 years prior and had plans to construct a bridge over NC 26 (now 226A). John made plans to construct a gas station and store alongside the Parkway. He funded these plans with the money he made selling moonshine.

For over 30 years, The Switzerland Cafe has been specializing in fresh, homemade sandwiches, soups, and quiches. We have one of the largest wood fired smokehouses in the state, and our Applewood Smoked Trout and Hickory Smoked Pork BBQ have earned us a accolades on the North Carolina Barbeque Trail. Our General Store offers picnic items, wine, beer and cheese as well as T-Shirts and Souvenirs.

We are a family campground nestled in the Western North Carolina Blue Ridge mountains and our camping season begins the first weekend in April and ends the last weekend in October every year. We are available for nightly & weekly camping.  We offer level, spacious lots with full hook-up on all sites with no limit on camper size.  We offer two pull-through lots to accommodate your needs. First built in 1833, the NuWray is North Carolina’s oldest continuously operating hotel. With nearly 200 years of history behind it, the Grande Dame of Burnsville has undergone a full-scale restoration under new ownership, giving it the chance at another century of service. The restoration is nearly done, including all-new plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and commercial kitchen, and is being completed with a sensitivity to historical and existing materials. With twenty-two rooms with en-suite bathrooms, and a full-service restaurant giving a healthy nod to the NuWray’s culinary history and regional traditions, we are looking forward to welcoming you through these historic doors once again.

Appalachian Java is located in downtown Burnsville, just west of the beautiful town square and across from Burnsville Town Hall! Our log cabin is one mile up overlooking the town and Mt Celo. A paved road leads all the way up to Peacock Lane. It is peaceful and quiet with abundant wildlife. There are two creeks on the property and an old log cabin over a 100 years old. It is close to great hikes, fishing, horseback riding, skiing in winter and golf. White water rafting and zip lining are available in the area. There are cool temperatures in the summer.

Sugar Ski & Country Club is a year-round condominium resort located on top of Sugar Mountain in the North Carolina High Country. Day use areas are located nearby for those wanting to take advantage of swimming, boating, and fishing opportunities. Campground Hosts are on site to answer questions and assist with your visit.
